Newsletter

PMI Willamette Valley has decided to resume publishing a Chapter Newsletter for the Salem, Eugene, and Corvallis Branches (click the link to read the Spring 2010 edition). We will be publishing one every quarter, instead of monthly like we used to do in the past.

Please provide us with feedback on the newsletter. Does the frequency sound good? How do you prefer it to be delivered/posted? What content or articles would you like to see?

If you are interested, submit an article and we will submit it for publication.

You are welcome to email Randy Lloyd at RandyLloyd.pmp@gmail.com, or the link in the Officers' table above, with feedback on this issue.

Topic:

Project Managers as Agents of Change: Integrating PM and OCM practices for better organizational results

 Presented by:
Tim Rahschulte, associate professor in the George Fox University’s School of Business

Organizational change has frustrated executive level leaders and project level managers for decades. Anyone experienced in project management is aware of this frustration. Managing projects is not easy. In fact, most project efforts to change an organization fall short of meeting desired outcomes. Varying authorities have argued that 60 – 90 percent of all projects fail due to business complexities today. These statistics have led to frustration and concern among executive leaders and project managers around the globe.

Indeed, change is necessary. There is no immunity from change in any sector of business and trends suggest organizations and change endeavors will only increase in their complexity, thus increasing the pressure on you, the project manager – your organization’s identified agent for change.

This presentation offers a practical understanding of why projects fail and how project managers can better plan, lead, and sustain organizational changes through the integration of project management and organizational change management disciplines.

About the Presenter

Tim Rahschulte is an associate professor in the George Fox University’s School of Business where he is responsible for courses in the doctor of management program and their MBA program. Additionally, he serves as a business transition architect for the State of Oregon’s Department of Human Services where he is responsible for leading enterprise-wide change initiatives. He has written numerous journal articles and a book on the subject and has been invited to present on the topic the last three years at the PMI Global Congress.
